Rules and Regulations

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS B. TECH PROGRAMME

  • Each year shall be divided into two Semesters Autumn Semester (July to December) and Spring Semester (January to June). The Autumn semester shall ordinarily begin in July for students already on rolls and the Spring semester shall ordinarily begin in January. However, the first semester (Autumn, for newly admitted students) may begin a little later depending on completion of admission formalities. The number of teaching weeks in each semester shall be fifteen to eighteen with a minimum of 90 teaching days excluding the period of examination.
  • Each year the University shall draw out a calendar of academic and associated activities, which shall be adhered to. The same is non negotiable. Details of curricula and syllabi shall be as decided by the Academic Council with provision for modification from time to time as per the needs of the specializations concerned.
  • Duration : The duration of the programme shall be governed by the regulations of AICTE that may change from time to time. As per the prevailing regulations, B.Tech programme is Four years (Eight Semesters). A weaker student can complete a four year programme in not more than seven years.

Eligibility for Admission:

  • Admissions to different courses of the University shall be based on criteria decided by the Academic Council of the University. There shall be provision for direct admission for a limited number of NRI / FN students. Details of criteria for admission shall be as per provisions of the rules formulated for the purpose. The University shall adopt the eligibility criteria and admission procedure as specified by AICTE/UGC with suitable changes (if necessary).
  • Physically handicapped Candidates shall be required to satisfy the prescribed medical fitness norms.
  • Admissions shall ordinarily close before a specified period from the date of commencement of the first semester instruction, through a notification / academic calendar..
  • Candidates shall have to register as bonafide students with the University as per University regulations before commencement of instruction in First Semester and for Lateral, entry students in Third Semester.
  • For students pursuing first degree Engineering / Technology programme only in constituent/affiliated institutions, a student may be allowed a change of branch in an institution / college after completion of course requirements for the first (autumn) and second (spring) semesters of the first year programme, subject to availability of seats in a programme. The selection shall be on the basis of merit, assessed through the combined results of the first and second semester examinations declared in the form of Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at the end of the first year. This is an incentive to meritorious students securing a CGPA of 8.5 or more. The change of branch shall be accorded to only such students who have cleared all examination items of both the semesters in first attempt, in examinations held during academic session of his / her first admission to the course. Change of branch may be accorded subject to the condition that the consequent total student strength in the ‘gainer’ programme shall not exceed by 10% of the approved seats and the net student strength in the loser programme shall not deplete by more than 10% of the actual student strength existing on the rolls prior to the change during the process. An institution deciding to award benefit of branch change shall constitute a committee (Branch Change Committee) with the Principal as its Chairman. The committee shall invite options from the students. The committee will prepare a merit list based on CGPA and allot change of branch in order of their preferences. Institutional decision on the matter shall be final. The college shall intimate the decision on branch change within seven calendar days of such change. Change of branch process has to be completed at least 15 Calendar days before the instruction at Second year (Third Semester) begins.
  • No inter college transfer shall be allowed. Under extraordinary circumstances however the University may transfer students from one affiliated institution / college to another in the same programme at any time during the continuation of the programme without assigning any reason for the same.

Eligibility for appearing Examinations:

  • A student shall be eligible to appear in an examination provided he / she pursues a regular course of study in respective department and attends at least 75% in each of theoretical, practical and sessional subjects scheduled during the semester. The attendance shall be considered from the date of admission of the candidate in the institution / college. The schedule of classes shall be notified through a Time Table to the students at least seven days before the beginning of the 1st class (Date specified In the Academic Calendar) in the Semester.
  • Concessions: A student who has been absent for short periods on health ground or due to participation in cultural, sports, other academic / official assignments in the interest of the institution / college / University / government with prior written permission of the head of the Institution / college shall be permitted a maximum of additional concession of 10% in attendance and would be eligible for appearing in examination with a minimum of 65% of attendance in a semester.
  • A student shall be admitted to any examination in a subject only if he / she has registered for that subject, paid necessary registration and examination fees in the beginning of the semester.
  • A candidate shall be allowed in an End Semester examination only after he / she is issued an Admit Card for the relevant examination by the College. The college shall obtain clearance on eligibility from the University.
  • A student who is promoted to the next higher year with backlogs in the previous year shall be permitted to appear at an examination, provided he/she fulfills the conditions 3.1 to 3.4 above. However such conditions will be essential for the supplementary examination to be conducted for the final year (8th Semester candidates in B. Tech ).

Eligibility for appearing Examinations:

  • discipline consists of the following four types of items:
    • ILL treatment or disorderly behaviour to the staff of the institute or the fellow students.
    • Unsatisfactory progress in the studies.
    • Adoption of unfair means in the institute, university and state council examination.

    The schedule of these items along with their credit points for each semester shall be as formulated by the Academic Council from time to time.

  • At the end of each semester, there shall be an examination (hereinafter called end semester) extra conducted by the University as per programme announced by the Director, Examinations at that of each academic year / semester.
  • Back paper examinations, if any, shall be held with the normal end semester examination.
  • For all First Degree level University programmes, supplementary examination shall not be held under normal conditions for students with backlogs upto final year level. Such students shall be expected to clear their arrear items alongwith regular students of lower semesters at the relevant semester in subsequent year(s) or in the same year if a subject is offered in both terms. For the purpose of degree, only separate supplementary examination for both Autumn and Spring semesters at the final year level shall however be held within one month of the publication of the final degree examination results.

Declaration of Result and Promotions:

  • In order to pass a programme / course a candidate must secure at least Pass Grade in each of the Theory, Practical, Project, Seminar, Sessional and Viva Voce items and maintain a minimum level of overall performance as specified in the rules formulated by the Academic Council.
  • Unless otherwise stated in the rules governing promotion, the promotional status between two consecutive semesters and / or two consecutive levels / years shall be indicated on the semester credit card as per details below:
    • Passed and Promoted (denoted by P) and indicating that
      • The candidate has cleared every registered course item of both odd and even semester of the academic year
      • He / She has no backlogs from the lower levels.
    • Rules for promotion & Subject Registration

      For all under Graduate (B. Tech) Programmes.

      • For promotion from 1st to 2nd year A student at the end of the 1st year (inclusive of first and second Semesters) having a CGPA of 4.5 or more eligible for promotion to 2nd year, regardless of the number of failed subjects. A Student with a CGPA of less than 4.50 may choose to quit; or pursue studies after registering as a fresh student in the first year. If the registered student in the new 1st year once again fails to secure a CGPA of at least 4.50 at the end of the second semester, he/she has to quit the BPUT system.
      • Each Lab/sessional paper and a theory paper treated as a subject.
      • During the course of study, a student can register for a maximum of three backing subjects (with requisite attendance in those subjects) of the lower semesters, preference being given to the lowest possible semester in addition to the prescribed subjects for that specific semester.
      • During any time in the course of study (1st to 8th semester) a student will not be permitted to register in a higher semester subjects if he/she does not have the requisite attendance un the immediate lower semester.
      • If a student does not secure a pass grade in Lab / Sessional subject, he/she has to clear the same in accordance with the laid down procedure in the Academic Regulations.
      • The student once registered for a set of backing subjects cannot change them during the semester.
      • After completing the 8th semester, a student may register in any number of subjects and attempt to clear them during appropriate semester examinations.
      • If the college could accommodate in the time-table, a student if he/she desires may attend the classes for backing registered subjects and the revised class test marks will then be considered. For a student who would not attend the classes, the class test marks already recorded for these backing subjects would remain valid till he/she is registered with BPUT.
      • Registration for the Special Examination There shall be No Supplementary Examination; however, there shall be only one special Examination after the 8th Semester examination for 3rd to 8th semester subjects. Students, after completion of 8th Semester, can register in any number of subjects for the Special examination as per their syllabus of 3rd to 8th semesters only. The Special Examination will start from 30th June of every year. There shall not be any re-valuation for any subject of the special examination.
      • Pre-requisite Subjects The group of pre-requisite subjects will be notified for registration from the academic session 2008-09
    • Ineligible for promotion (denoted by X) indicating that

      The candidate is NOT eligible for promotion to the next higher level due to non fulfillment of stipulations governing eligibility for promotion to next level / year.

  • A candidate shall be eligible for promotion to the next higher level / year if he / she satisfies the conditions laid down under the rules formulated by the Academic Council.
  • Candidates declared as eligible for promotion to the next level without clearing all course items of earlier semesters individually shall have to apply for permission for admission to the higher level and obtain the same from the director / principal of concerned institution before registration. Permitted candidates have to first register for backlog subjects if the same are being offered in Semester.
  • The University shall publish a list of all successful candidates of each of the semester examinations within the date prescribed in academic calendar.
  • The over all performance of a successful candidate for the award of a degree shall be based on the combined results of all the examinations of the concerned programme.
  • A student’s level of competence shall be categorized in accordance with the cumulative Grade Point Average.

Grading System :

  • A letter grading system shall be followed in the University. The uniform Grading System to be followed for all Academic Programmes (except Ph.D. and D.Sc) shall be as described below:
    • A Seven Point grading system on base of 10 shall be followed in the University. Categorisation of these grade and their correlation shall be as under :

      N.B. :Grade C shall be considered average, Grade D shall be passed Grade for theory and Grade C shall be Pass Grade for Pracitical/Sessional/Project/Seminar/Viva-Voce.

    • A transitory letter grade I (carrying point 2) shall be introduced for cases where the result are incomplete. This grade shall automatically be converted into appropriate grade(s) as and when the results are complete.
  • A student’s level of competence shall be categorized by a GRADE POINT AVERAGE to be specified as :
    SGPA-Semester garde point average.
    CGPA-Cumulative grade point average.
  • Definition of terms.
    • POINT - Integer showing each letter grade. (see previous page)
    • CREDIT - Integer signifying the relative emphasis of individual course items in a semester as indicated by the Course structure and syllabus. (see page 52)

Degree Requirements :

  • B. Tech Degree Programme A candidate will be eligible for award of B. Tech degree in an approved Engineering discipline if

    • Obtains at least satisfactory grade (C) in NCC / NSS / Games / Sports / Music / Drama / Debate / Quiz / Yoga.
    • The candidate has not been convicted for any cognizable offence.
    • The CGPA is 6.0 or more.
    • A student may be allowed to receive final degree with F grade, in some registered subjects provided he/she has cleared minimum required credits with grade D or more and fulfills other conditions. The subject where he/she has secured F grade will not be shown in Marksheet.
    • There shall be no class / division awarded to a student either at Semester or degree level.
    • A student’s level of competence shall be categorised by the GRADE POINT AVERAGE. It shall be the basis of judging his / her overall competence in the course.
    • For award of gold medal / scholarships etc, more than one candidates may be declared Joint Winner if they have same CGPA.

Examination :

The University shall have continuous evaluation system for each theory, practical, sessional, design and project papers.

  • Theory Papers
    • A theory paper will have 100 percentage points. The weightage for three class tests and the end semester examinations will be as follows :

      Class Test - I of one hour duration=10 percentage points.
      Class Test - II of one hour duration=10 percentage points.
      Class Test - III of one hour duration=10 percentage points.
      End Semester Examination of
      three hours duration.
      =70 percentage points.
      Total=100 percentage points.
    • The syllabus for each theory paper will have 4(8) modules. The three Class tests will be nearly equispaced in Academic Calendar. While the first Class test will be after 1(2) module(s), the second and the third tests will be after 2(4) and 3(6) modules. While Test I will cover first (1st and 2nd) modules(s) of syllabus, Test 2 will cover 2nd (3rd and 4th) module(s). Third test will cover 3rd (5th and 6th) module(s). The end semester examination is comprehensive and will cover all 4(8) modules. The academic calendar will specify the examination period for all Class tests and the end semester examination.
    • The class Tests will be conducted at the college level in the Scheduled week and the corrected papers have to be shown to the students within seven calendar days. The score out of 10 percentage points shall be immediately sent to the University.
    • There is no compensatory Class Test. If a candidate misses a Class Test due to medical reasons, the candidate will make an application to the college. The college will constitute a medical board with a doctor not below the rank of a CDMO to examine if the illness was serious enough to compel him/her to abstain from appearing at the test. Medical board report with the recommendation of the Principal shall be sent to the University for consideration of compensating test /award of percentage points. The University shall constitute a committee to recommend the action for each case. If the committee recommends compensatory percentage points, it will be the average of the other two tests.
    • A candidate shall Clear (Pass) a theory paper if he/she secures :
      • A minimum of 25 Percentage points out of 70 points (theory) in the end Semester exams &
      • A minimum of 37 percentage points out of 100 points in three class Tests & end Semester exam taken together (theory)
  • Practical Papers
    • The syllabus of a paper shall specify the number of practical experiments (works) to be done in a semester.
    • A practical paper shall have 100 percentage points.
    • Each practical experiment (work) shall have equal percentage point as its weightage.
    • A practical paper shall have 2, 3 and 6 contact hours/week for 1, 2 and 4 credit papers respectively. Time table must provide for such contact hours.
    • A practical experiment (work) shall be completed in all respect within the allotted hours. The evaluation of the experiment (work) done by the candidate has also to be completed within the allotted hour. A practical experiment (work) will be evaluated based on the following components. The relative weightage of the components are also given below.

    • A candidate has to be told about the score at the end of a Practical class. The Score shall be sent to the University on the same day.
    • The teacher concerned with a practical class shall maintain the reports of the candidates together with the score on each experiment giving the reasons for awarding either very high score (90 percent or above) and low score (30 percent and below).
    • A candidate shall clear a Practical Paper if his/her score in the paper is minimum of 50 percentage points.
    • College can arrange a compensatory practical class for a student who misses an experiment only on medical ground. Such a compensatory experiment has to be arrange within two weeks of his/her missing a practical class. The score for the compensatory test shall be sent to the University giving reference to the original practical date that the student has missed.
  • Sessional Papers
    • Sessional paper will carry 10 percentage points.
    • The syllabus shall prescribe the number of jobs and specific tasks to be performed in each job. All jobs in a sessional shall have more or less same allotted contact hours and equal weightage.
    • A sessional job has to be evaluated based on the following considerations.
      Quality of job50 percentage

    • Each sessional work is to be completed during allotted hours in the class it self.
    • No sessional works can be done at home / hostel.
    • At the end of each sessional work, the evaluation will be done. The student is to be shown the score and told about weaknesses (if any).
    • At the end of each sessional the marks are to be sent to the University.
    • If a student misses upto 35 percent of allotted sessional hours for a job on health ground, he/ she may make an application to the Principal alongwith a medical certificate. A committee constituted by the Principal may consider the application and the student may be allowed compensatory classes to complete the sessional work beyond the regular allotted hours.
    • The teacher concerned shall maintain all records of the sessional work at least for a semester for inspection by the University.
    • A candidate shall clear (Pass) a Sessional Paper in he/she scores minimum of 50 percentage points.
  • Project Item
    • A Project item shall carry 100 percentage points.
    • Each candidate shall do a project under the supervision of a Supervisor. There could be a Co-supervisor if the project is interdisciplinary in nature. For an Industry based project, the Co-supervisor could be from concerned Industry. Project could be Theoretical/Practical/Design oriented.
    • Evaluation of the Project
      • Evaluation of a major/minor project will be done on following points.
        Understanding the relevance,

      • The evaluation shall be done by a Committee of teachers where the Project Supervisor shall be a member. His evaluation shall carry 50 percentage point weightage. The other members shall have 50 percentage point weightage. For major project, an external expert shall be involved.
      • Minimum score for a Pass in Project item is 50 percentage points.
      • The Chairman of the Committee shall forward the score within the prescribed date to the University. He/She shall also maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least a semester. He/She submit a copy to the Principal for records.
    • Seminar Item Seminar performance will be evaluated by a committee of Teachers. It will have the following components.

      A candidate has to not only give his/her seminar, but also must attend atleast 75 percent of seminars given by other students. The Chairman of the Committee shall forward the score within the prescribed date to the University. He/She shall also maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least a semester. He/She shall submit a copy to the Principal for records. Minimum score for a Pass in Seminar item shall be 50 percentage points.

    • Comprehensive Viva-Voce Item
      • This shall be done by a Committee of Teachers with participation of an External Expert from an Institution/Industry of repute.
      • The Chairman of the Committee shall forward the score within the prescribed date to the University. He/She shall also maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least a semester. He/She shall submit a copy of the score to the Principal for records.
      • Minimum score for a Pass in Viva-Voce is 50 percentage points.
    • Evaluation Responsibility
      • The teacher imparting instruction is solely responsible for evaluation of Class Tests, Practical and Sessional works. He/She is also responsible for maintaining all records to justify his/her evaluation scheme and score thereof.
      • Neither the Principal nor the Management shall have right to change the score assigned by a teacher. However, if the Principal is convinced that the scores assigned by a teacher is biased, he/she shall appoint a committee where the teacher concerned will be a member for review. The decision of the committee shall be final and binding. The decision with the revised score shall be sent to the University for necessary action.
      • A copy of the score assigned for each Class Test, Practical and Sessional work shall be submitted to the Principal for records, and the same will be sent directly by the teacher concerned to the University.

Time Table for Instruction :

Each constituent/affiliated college has to prepare time table for the subjects (Theory, Practical and Sessional being offered in a semester at least 15 calender days before the coursewise registration of students to that semester. The time table must also contain the teacher who is handling a subject. If the subject is handled in more than one sections the names of the teachers handling all the sections should be given. Each constituent / affiliated college shall have to submit Time Table at least 10 calender days before registration.


Registration of Teachers :

  • Each regular faculty engaged in teaching of a theory paper, supervision of Practical, Sessional and Project work shall be registered teacher of the University.
  • A teacher of a constituent/affiliated college of the University has to get himself/herself registered in the University before he/she handles the formal instruction. The college shall forward the registration form in prescribed format with necessary fees to the University.
  • Only a registered teacher of the University shall be permitted to get involved in teaching, invigilation examination and evaluation processes.
  • The University reserves the right to cancel the registration of a teacher, if the performance of a teacher is found to be unsatisfactory and his/her conduct is unbecoming of a teacher with out assigning any reason for the action.

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS MCA PROGRAMME

Duration of Curriculum and Calendar :

  • Master in Computer Application (MCA) Programme is of three years duration. Each year shall be divided into Two Semesters. First Semester shall ordinarily begin in August and end in December. Second Semester shall ordinarily begin in January and end in May. Sometimes due to delay in admission formalities, the First Semester (for fresh students) may be delayed by few days. The Second Semester may also be delayed.
  • Each year, the University shall draw an Academic Calendar and the same shall be non negotiable and strictly adhered to the Academic Calendar for the First year shall be handed over to each admitted student along with his / her University Registration Card. Second year Academic Calendar shall be made available during registration for Third Semester and Third year calendar during registration for Fifth Semester.
  • The Curriculum and Syllabus shall be modified with approval of Academic Council positively once in every three years to keep the same up to date. However, minor modifications can be done as and when necessary with the approval of the Vice Chancellor, The modification so done shall be placed to the immediate next Academic Council Meeting for ratification.
  • A candidate may be permitted to complete MCA degree requirements in not more than 5 years (10 Semesters).

Eligibility for Admission and Admission Procedure :

  • The eligibility for admission to MCA shall be same as one decided by AICTE from time to time.
  • The Selection of students shall be done on the basis of the Joint Entrance Examination of the State or Common Entrance Test of the University. Merit listed candidates shall be called for counseling either centrally or at College level.
  • Admission shall ordinarily close prior to the commencement of the instruction in the First Semester.
  • Provisional admission may be permitted on specific request for a merit listed candidate if his/her examinations are over and his/her results are not yet out. Such a candidate shall have to submit proof of Passing with minimum prescribed marks (if any) latest by Thirtieth of September. Otherwise, his/her provisional admission shall be automatically cancelled.
  • No inter college transfer shall be allowed. Under extraordinary circumstances however the University may transfer students from one constituent / affiliated institution / college to another in the same MCA programme at any time during the continuation of the programme without assigning any reason for the same. The college / institution to which such candidates are transferred shall have to admit them and allow to complete the programme.

Eligibility for appearing in Examination :

  • A student shall be eligible to appear in an examination provided he / she pursues a regular course of study in respective department and attends at least 75% of class in each theoretical, practical and sessional subject during the, semester. The attendance shall be considered from the date of admission of the candidate in the institution / college.
  • Concessions: A student who has been absent on medical ground or for short periods due to participation in cultural, sports, other academic / official assignments in the interest of the institution / college / University / government with prior written permission of the head of the institution / college shall be permitted a maximum of additional concession of 10%, in attendance and would be eligible for appearing in examination with a minimum of 65% of attendance in a semester.
  • Student shall be admitted to any examination in a subject only if he / she has registered for that subject, paid necessary registration and examination fee in the beginning of the semester.
  • Candidate shall be allowed in an examination only after he / she is issued an Admit Card for the relevant examination by the University, after obtaining the eligibility certificate from the head of the institution.
  • Student who is promoted to the next higher year with backlogs as stipulated under 7.2 (ii) in the previous year shall be permitted to appear as an ex student / casual student as per provisions.

Rules for Examination :

  • The MCA Programme may consist of following items.
    • Theory Items
    • Practical / Laboratory Items
    • Project Items
    • Seminar Items
    • Comprehensive Viva Voce Items

    • The schedule for these items along with their credit points for each Semester shall be as per rules approved by Academic Council from time to time.

  • At the end of each Semester, there shall be an examination (herein after called end term examination) conducted by the University.
  • A candidate securing F grade in an examination has to reregister for the same and appear at the normal end semester examination. There will be no supplementary examination. The student shall have the option to take a substitute paper in lieu of the paper where he/she has secured F grade. However, the paper shall belong to the same item and category of the subject in that item.
  • Evaluation of Theory Papers

    The performance of a candidate in a subject shall be evaluated based on following components.

    • End term comprehensive examination70 points

    • The subject teacher shall evaluate (b) and (c), show the evaluated answer paper to the students and discuss the test problems / projects in the class. He / She will have the responsibility of sending the score to the University. The concerned teacher shall maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least one semester. The Principals shall maintain a copy for records.

  • Evaluation of Project
    • Evaluation of a project will be done on following points.

    • The evaluation will be done by a Committee of teachers where the Project Supervisor will be a member. His evaluation shall carry 50 percentage point weightage. The other members shall have 50 percentage point weightage. For major project, an external expert shall be involved. There shall be minimum of one mid course appraisal of the work by the committee.
    • Minimum score for a Pass in Project item in 50 percentage points.
    • The Chairman of the Committee shall forward the score within the prescribed date to the University. He / She shall also maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least a semester. He / She shall submit a copy to the Principal for records.
  • Evaluation of Laboratory Works

    A Laboratory paper shall have minimum of 5 to a maximum of 10 assignments / experiments. Each assignment shall have equal percentage points. The teacher concerned shall evaluate each assignment I experiment based on quality of result, report and general understanding. He / She shall maintain all records for scrutiny by University for one Semester. On completion of each assignment / experiment, the evaluation shall be done, The score will be shown to the student and sent to the University with a copy to the Principal for records. Minimum score for Pass in Laboratory work shall be 50 percentage points.

  • Evaluation of Seminar

    Seminar performance will be evaluated by a committee of Teachers. It will have the following components.

    • Quality of Material 30 points
      Quality of Presentation 30 points
      Quality and extent of response from other students 20 points
      Participation in other Presentations 20 points
      100 points

    A candidate has to not only give his / her seminar, but also must attend atleast 75 percent of seminars given by other students. The Chairman of the Committee shall forward the score within the prescribed date to the University. He / She shall also maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least a semester. He / She shall submit a copy to the Principal for records. Minimum score for a Pass in Seminar paper shall be 50 percentage points.

  • Evaluation of Comprehensive Viva Voce
    • This shall be done by a Committee of Teacher with participation of an External Expert from an Institution / Industry of repute.
    • The Chairman of the Committee shall forward the score within the prescribed date to the University. He / She shall also maintain all records for inspection by the University for at least a semester. He / She shall submit a copy to the Principal for records.
    • Minimum score for a Pass in Viva Voce is 50 percentage points.
  • Evaluation Responsibility :
    • The teacher imparting instruction is solely responsible for evaluation of Class Tests, Practical and Sessional works. He / She is also responsible for maintaining all records to justify his / her evaluation scheme and score thereof.
    • Neither the Principal nor the Management shall have right to change the score assigned by a teacher. However, if the Principal is convinced that the scores assigned by a teacher is biased, he / she shall appoint a committee where the teacher concerned will be member for review. The decision of the committee shall be final and binding. The decision with revised score shall be sent to the University for Necessary action.
    • A copy of the score assigned for each Class Test, Practical and Sessional work shall be submitted to the Principal for records, and the same will be sent directly by the teacher concerned to the University.
  • A candidate shall pass (clear) a subject if
    • In a Theory paper he/she has secured minimum of
      • A minimum of 25 Percentage points out of 70 points (theory) in the end Semester exams &
      • A minimum of 37 percentage points out of 100 points in three class Tests & end Semester exam taken together (theory)
    • In a Practical/Laboratory/Sessional/Seminar/Project Paper he/she has secured minimum of 50 Percentage Points.

Grading System :

  • A letter grading system shall be followed in University. The uniform Grading System to be followed for all Academic Programmes (except Ph.D. and D.Sc) shall be as described below :

Promotion and Qualification for Degree :

  • Promotion to Second year : A candidate shall be eligible to be promoted to second year provided he/she has I or F Grade in not more than two papers with CGPA of 6.0 in all cleared subjects. The candidate shall register for the subjects with I or F grade in corresponding Semester along with the next year batch to clear these subjects. There is no supplementary examination.
  • Promotion to Third year : A candidate shall be eligible to be promoted to second year provided he/she has I or F Grade in not more than two papers with CGPA of 6.0 in all cleared subjects. The candidate shall register for the subjects with I or F grade in corresponding Semester along with the next year batch to clear these subjects. There is no supplementary examination.
  • Degree requirements : A candidate shall be eligible to be admitted to the Master in Computer Application (MCA) degree of the University provided he/she
    • Has cleared the minimum prescribed credit requirements with minimum of Pass grade in each Theory subject and C Grade for other subject items.
    • Has secured minimum CGPA of 6.0 or above.
    • Has no disciplinary or court cases relating to college/University matters pending against him/her.
    • Has not been convicted for any cognizible offences.
  • Credit Requirement for the Degree : Credit Requirements for the Degree shall be Minimum of 160 and maximum of 168. The following Subject Items shall constitute the total credit requirements.

Time Table for Instructions :

Each constituent/affiliated college has to prepare Time table for the subjects (Theory, Practical and Sessional) being offered in a semester at least 15 calender days before the course wise registration of students to that semester. The time table must also contain the name of the teacher who is handling a subject. If the subject is handled in more than on sections, the names of the teachers handling all the sections should be given. Each constituent/affiliated college shall have to submit the Time Table to the University at least 10 calender days before registration.

Registration of Teachers

  • Each regular faculty engaged in teaching of a theory paper, supervising Practical, Sessional and Project work shall be registered as a teacher of the University.
  • A teacher of a constituent/affiliated college of the University has to get himself/herself registered in the University before he/she handles the formal instruction. The college shall forward the registration form in prescribed format with necessary fees to the University.
  • Only a registered teacher of the University shall be permitted to get involved in teaching, invigilation, examination and evaluation processes.
  • The University reserves the right to cancel the registration of a teacher, if the performance of a teacher is found to be unsatisfactory and his/her conduct in unbecoming of a teacher.

Objectives of the MCA course :

The M.C.A. programme prepares students to take up positions as systems analysts, systems designers, programers and managers in any field related to information technology. The program, therefore, aims at imparting comprehensive knowledge with equal emphasis on theory and practice. The M.C.A. students are encouraged to spend a full semester working in the industry/in the institute giving them insight into the workings of the IT world. However, the course curriculum will have enough flexibility to enable a student to undertake advance studies in Computer Science later on.

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

  • Eligibility of Appearing Examination :

    No student shall be admitted to any examination unless he or she has :

    • Attended atleast 75 per cent of the total number of classes and 750 minimum contact hours as per A.I.C.T.E. norms from the beginning of the session taken during the year in each of the theory papers and practical classes individually to be certified by the teacher taking the classes concerned and endorsed by the Principal. In case of students remaining any other reason, they shall lose their attendance and the percentage of attendance shall be calculated by taking in account all classes actually taken during the year. State Government on the recommendation of the Director of Technical Education & Training, Orissa subject to non-contradiction of A.I.C.T.E. guide lines for achieving a minimum contact hours may declare any part of the session as holiday/vacation or otherwise for not taking into account in percentage calculation.
    • And has good conduct in the Inst./Hostel to the satisfaction of the principal of the institution in which she/he is student.
    • Shortage of attendance on account of illness if any case be condemned upto 15 per cent by the secretary. State Council of Technical Education and Training, on application in writing alongwith a medical certificate duly recommended by Principal provided that the said medical certificate should be from the Medical Officers of the Institution or from a Govt. Doctor not below the rank of an Asst. surgeon.
    • A student who have remained absent for a period of 30 days or more without any intimation, deemed to have been dis-continued and they shall not be re-admitted during that session.
    • Student remaining absent for more than 3 days with prior intimation may be considered for re-admission on fulfillment of the following conditions.
      • Parent/Guardian shall personally approach the concerned Principal with written application requesting for re-admission.
      • Pay re-admission fee as prescribed.
    • N.B.: Boarders who have remained absent for a period of 3 days or less, the above such clause I-IV and V will not be applicable, But such incidences should not occur frequently causing loss of contact hours more than 20 per cent in any month. In such cases Principals of the Institution are authorised to apply any of the clauses of IV or V as deemed fit to any irregular boarder, immediately after recurrence of loss of contact hours exceeding 20 per cent. Review of absentees is the duty of every teacher of the concerned faculty.


Pass in Examination :

In order to pass in examination Candidates should obtain the marks as prescribed in Examination Scheme of the Syllabus from time to time.

  • Theory : At least 35 per cent of the total marks in each theory papers.
  • Practical : At least 40 per cent of the total marks in each practical examinations.
  • Aggregate : 45 per cent in aggregate of the total marks for Engineering Courses. Pass mark in each subject is 45 per cent, Aggregate 45 per cent.

Back Paper Concession :

Students passed in aggregate and failed in one or two or up to maximum of those subjects will be eligible to avail back paper concession and such students will go to higher class provided they are eligible otherwise. Except the above other students will appear in all subjects even though they have passed in aggregate and shall not go to higher class.


Award of Division:

On passing all the examinations as prescribed in the syllabus, Final Diploma/Post Diploma Certificates will be issued by the State Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training, Orissa 1st Class, 2nd Class and Pass depending on the marks secured by candidates as detailed below :


For this purpose the total marks of 2nd year and 3rd year will be taken in to account for 3 years Diploma Course. In all other courses the entire total marks of the course will be taken into account to arrive at the percentage of marks secured.

  • 1st Class with Honours : 75 per cent and above of the marks secured.
  • 1st Class : 60 per cent and above but less than 75% of marks secured.
  • 2nd Class : 45 per cent and above but less than 60 per cent of the marks secured.
  • Pass : Below 45 per cent marks secured but above 40 percent in case of Engineering Diploma.
    • Students who have secured more than 75 percent with back paper in 2nd or 3rd year Examinations are not eligible for award of honours.
    • Immediately after declaration of the results, the successful candidates as per sub rule (i) above may apply through their respective principals in prescribed application form with fees for issue of final Diploma/post Diploma Certificate. Successful candidates of orthotics or prosthetics Diploma are required to complete six months of intership before applying for final Diploma Certificates in the same manner.
    • Duplicate Diploma can be issued if the Original Diploma is actually lost/destroyed by the candidate for which a court affidavit to that effect in original has to be submitted by the candidate along with the requisite fees and application in the prescribed form through the Principal of the concerned Institution. On receipt of the same, the Duplicate Diploma will be issued by the State Council.

Examination Rules (Re-Admission) :

The following categories of students may be allowed for readmission.

  • Students in the 1st year class who could not appear in the examination of that year due to shortage of attendance may seek readmission to the class in the immediate subsequent academic year only, provided that he or she has attended atleast 40 percent of the class in each subject (both theory & practical) held during the year in which he or she has fallen short of attendance.
  • A student who has studied in second year or third year as the case may be, but could not appeared in the examination of that year due to shortage of attendance may seek readmission 2nd or 3rd year, as the case may be beginning in the next subsequent year only.
  • Students who have failed in all subjects may if he/she so likes take readmission in the same class as regular students.
  • Re-admission in both the above cases is subject to satisfactory conduct of the students.
  • Students coming under clause (i), (ii) above and intending to take readmission in the institution has to apply for the same before the commencement of the session and his attendance will be counted from the beginning of the session along with regular students.

Limitation of Period of appearing Diploma Examination :

  • Every student shall be required to complete and pass the Diploma Course within Seven years from the date of his first registration in the State Council including, the period of discountenance, but excluding the debarred period under rule-II. The students who have failed to complete & pass the Diploma Course within 7 years as stated above shall be issued a compulsory T.C.
  • Students who have been continuously appearing all examinations without lossing any chance, may be allowed one more chance beyond 7 years to complete the Diploma on the recommendation of the concerned Principal.

Procedure for Admission into the Diploma course :

Selection of candidates for taking admission into the Diploma course of the Institute are being done by the Director of Technical Education and Vocational Training, Orissa. Interested candidates desirous of taking admission into this Institute are to apply for the same in response to the advertisement published by the Director, Technical Education and Vocational training, Orissa and give their option in favour of the Institute.

FEES

This being an Institute dealing with both degree and diploma students in the same infrastructure the diploma students no doubt will get enormous facilities for their curriculum development with payment of the fees as will be decided by the management from time to time.

The fees structure of Govt. of Orissa will be applicable for Diploma students of IGIT, Sarang.

N.B.:(

  • The fees structure may be revised as will be revised/modified by the management of the Institute, without any prior notification.
  • All 2nd and 3rd year students are also to pay the same fees except one time refundable fees.
    • Student desirous to stay in the hostel shall have to pay Rs. 2500/- towards Mess due at the time of allotment of accommodation.
    • Students seeking re-admission to a particular year/class will pay Rs. 100/-. Students are to pay their monthly hostel charges as per the actual for the respective months as will be notified by the Superintendent in the hostel before being permitted to pay the institute dues.

      All the fees paid including the caution money deposits and mess security will be forfeited to the institute, if a student is removed or withdrawn from the institute without completing the hole course. Mess advance may be refunded after deduction of dues if any.

      In case of new entrant who wants to withdraw himself from the Institute after admission, he should be supported by his parent/guardians giving reason thereof. No such application will ordinarily be entertained after 30 days of the respective classes. On necessary approval of the withdrawal request, the following fees may be refundable after deduction dues if any.

EXAMINATIONS

The State Council shall conduct examinations at the end of each Semester course namely Winter Semester & Summer Semester.
